A place to talk about words, writing, learning, and language, by Brian Wasko, founder of WriteAtHome.com
Can you answer this one for me? Is there are word funtionality? Why don't folks just say FUNCTION?-becky
Oops. Sorry for the two typographical errors. Functionality was what I meant to type. I don't see an edit button-feel free to correct my original post. smile.
Everyone I know can pronounce "I appreciate it." The "I" is a diphthong, and the third vowel sound that needs to follow it is often elided in common rapid speech. Elision is suppressing or altering a vowel sound, and is a very common element of speech in virtually every language in history. Please don't let the natural world irritate you so - you might as well be angry that grass is green.
